Fire Closes Trails in the Red Buttes Wilderness

The Fort Complex Fire, made up of three fires burning in and around the Red Buttes Wilderness Area, in Northern California and Southern Oregon, is affecting trails and road access in the area. The fires (Hello, Goff, & Lick) began August 5th when a lightening storm came through. Chainsaws and helicopters are being used to fight the Halo fire within the Red Buttes Wilderness Area under an exemption.

The affected (closed) trails on the Rogue River-Siskiyou NF include the Shoofly Trail 954, Butte Fork Trail 957, and Horse Camp Trail 958. On the Klamath National Forest the Fort Goff Trail and Portuguese Creek Trail have now been closed. The Pacific Crest Trail is still open but is close to the fires.
