Gravel Committee

Kansas is a national hotspot for gravel cycling, with thousands of miles of scenic, low-traffic rural roads and a passionate community that thrives on two wheels. The Gravel Committee at Kansas Trails Inc. (KTI) exists to celebrate, map, promote, and expand gravel riding opportunities across the Sunflower State.

What we do

This committee focuses on:

  • Creating and maintaining a statewide gravel route map
  • Identifying and promoting signature rides and annual events
  • Supporting rural communities that serve as trailheads, hubs, or race hosts
  • Working with local governments on signage, safety, and public access
  • Coordinating with tourism partners to boost outdoor recreation-based travel
  • Amplifying the health, economic, and cultural impact of gravel cycling in Kansas

Whether you’re a first-time rider or a seasoned racer tackling the Wicked Wilson, we’re here to make gravel accessible, safe, and unforgettable.

Who We are

  • Chair: A current member of the KTI Board of Directors
  • Members: Appointed representatives from gravel race organizers, cycling advocates, tourism boards, and local community leaders

Our team brings together the full spectrum of Kansas gravel—from community-based organizers to competitive event directors.

Why it matters

Gravel cycling is more than a trend—it’s a movement. It draws thousands of riders from around the world, boosts small-town economies, and showcases Kansas’s natural beauty. With thoughtful planning and support, gravel can be a long-term driver of wellness, tourism, and community connection.
