Ride 4 Resilience: 700 Miles of Hope, Healing & Trails Across Kansas
This fall, Kansas Trails Inc. is excited to start a new statewide journey of hope, resilience, and community: Ride 4 Resilience (R4R).
From September 15 to October 15, 2025, Kansas Trails Inc. Executive Director Mike Scanlon will cycle 700 miles across in 30 days, visiting 60+ trails. His goal is to raise $75,000 for GO2 for Lung Cancer and Kansas Trails Inc. This funding will directly support cancer research, advocacy, and trail development across our state.
For Mike, this ride is personal. In March 2024, he was diagnosed with Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Thanks to a rare biomarker (EGFR Exon 19 deletion) and a targeted therapy called Tagrisso, Mike is one of the lucky few currently living with No Evidence of Disease (NED). His determination to keep moving forward and to share his story to help others is the backbone of Ride 4 Resilience.
“Trails are more than paths through the prairie; they are lifelines for small towns, strengthening connections and boosting local economies,” Mike says. “This ride is about resilience in lung cancer treatments that extend lives and research that opens new possibilities, in the riders who bike our trails, and in the rural communities those trails connect.”
Ride 4 Resilience is not just about cycling. It’s about sharing stories of survival, inspiring resilience, and celebrating the trails that link Kansas communities. Along the way, local residents, trail users, and cancer survivors are invited to meet Mike, join in, and cheer on this remarkable journey. Thanks to two generous anonymous donors, every donation will be matched up to $20,000, doubling the impact.
